Empire Coffee was started in 2016 by two brothers who couldn't find a mobile coffee cart serving high quality coffee in Christchurch. In 2019 we opened our first permanent site at the Riverside Market in the Central City.
We love coffee, and can bring you the perfect brew from our permanent site or any of our three carts.
Our carts can serve over 120 coffees per hour per cart so we're happy dealing with big crowds. Our staff numbers change depending on the event.
Our beans are roasted by Heron Coffee Roasters and change depending on the coffee seasons. Our current offering is Balboa Cauca from Colombia for our milk based coffee, and San Ignacio Reserve from Peru for our black coffee. These coffees as well as a range of other filter coffees are available to purchase in retail bags from our Riverside store.
We grind our beans using Mythos One grinders. These give a consistent milling chamber temperature ensuring a constant dose and therefore a higher quality of espresso extraction. We also have an EK43 retail grinder for pour over coffee at select events. Our Riverside site uses a Victoria Arduino Black Eagle, the preferred coffee machine for top cafes around the world.
We have three coffee carts, two of them are three wheeled Piaggio Apes from Italy with 50cc engines. Their top speeds vary between 25 kmph and 35 kmph depending on the direction of the wind..... This is great around Christchurch but if we have to go outside the city we have a trailer that can take a coffee cart plus our gear, so we can easily get to events around the South Island. The third coffee cart is a 400cc Piaggio Ape - also with three wheels. This cart has an inbuilt beer tap for pouring nitro brew coffee, and is much faster around town than the other two!
Our minimum charge for mobile events is $400 + gst for the first hour, then $150 + gst for each subsequent hour.
